Sweet Revenge

Nov 30 2011 Published by under Whites

The Firsts’ gained some sweet revenge against United FC last night on a wet and windy Randall’s Island. Wiping away the distaste of Sunday’s 5-1 cup defeat, the firsts took a 5-0 commanding lead in the first half, playing excellent football and putting in some cracking goals, George grabbing a hat-trick and Mike Nieraeth two more. We naturally took our foot off the pedal in the second period, conceding one, but a Mike Nelson header gratifyingly made sure we would better the score that United achieved on the weekend, and left us 6-1 winners. The result puts us third in the league, only two points behind Pancyprians in the play-off spots.

Firsts’ Crash Out of State Cup

Nov 30 2011 Published by under Whites

The firsts were, unfortunately, knocked out of the cup on sunday as we lost 5-1 to United FC. For much of the time, the game was much tighter than the score suggests. We were tied 1-1 at half time, having taken the lead when Westy put in a cross at the near post that George poked in. United FC equalized just before half time, and then took the lead soon after the break. Before we knew it the score was 3-1, and from there we lost our defensive shape as we pushed to get back in the game.   The final score was a dissapointing 5-1 reversal.

Good Win For Firsts’

Nov 30 2011 Published by under Whites

CPR White Firsts’ dominated proceedeings on Sunday, ending up deserved 4-1 victors over Manhattan Kickers.   The age-defying dynamic Andy West opened the scoring following a well won header by defender Mike Nelson in the first half, and although the Kickers’ pulled one back early in the second, CPR quickly re-took control of the game.  ‘Striker’ George finally opened his account for the season as the Firsts’ reclaimed the lead, and then substitute Kwesi wrapped things up nicely with two well taken goals.

Nov 30 2011 Published by under Whites

The Firsts’ could not recover from going two down and despite pulling a late goal back through Mike Nieraeth, the game ended 2-1.  There wasn’t a great deal between the sides, with CPR unlucky not to take the lead as Manny hit the post with the game all square.  Two well taken goals from Barnstonworth ended up making the difference.

Whites Reserves Victorious in Brooklyn

Nov 29 2011 Published by under Club, Whites

The Whites Reserves made the trek to Aviator Sports Complex on the southern tip of Brooklyn to take on United FC under the lights Sunday night.  United FC came out of the gate quickly applying the majority of the pressure for the first 10 minutes.  As United FC began to tire, the match began to level out.  The Whites Reserves slowly saw more and more possession as the half continued and found themselves in complete control towards the end of the half.  CPR saw 4 or 5 excellent scoring opportunities come and go without being able to capitalize.  United FC’s best chance came on a counter attack where they snuck behind CPR’s back 4 and managed to loft the ball up over a charging Jon, but were denied a goal by Chris Brown sweeping in behind to clear the ball off the line.

The second half was a different story as CPR found themselves going into the wind.  United FC enjoyed the majority of the possession and was able to launch a few shots from distance, but were not really able to get behind the back line to create any truly dangerous opportunities.  Any efforts they had on goal were effortlessly cleaned up by Jon in net.  Just as the White Reserves were regaining their composure and control of possession they caught a break as the ball slipped behind a United FC defender and Jacopo calmly slotted the ball past the keeper.  The CPR defense held strong for the rest of the match and were provided with some insurance as Dan C drove in from the left wing, beat the keeper, and tapped it in.  Final score 2-0.

Whites Reserves Defeat Manhattan Kickers

Nov 28 2011 Published by under Club, Whites

The Whites Reserves defeated the Manhattan Kickers on November 2oth.  It was an early kickoff and that showed at the beginning of the match.  The Reserves gave up an early goal on a counter attack, as the Manhattan kickers streaked down their right flank, centered the ball and found themselves up 1-0.  CPR quickly responded 5 minutes later when Kwesi penetrated to the end line and drew the ball back for Mike D to smoothly slot home.  Another counter attack by the Kickers gave them the lead once again on a driven shot from the top of the box that was guided in with a bit of luck.  Again the Reserves responded quickly finding another equalizer when Dan Riso drove in a corner that found Mike D whose angled header found the corner of the net.  They went into the half at 2-2.

The Whites Reserves took control of the match in the 2nd half enjoying the vast majority of the possession.  After creating a multitude of chances the breakthrough finally came as an oddly bouncing ball in the box was bravely and skillfully headed up and over the keeper by Chris Norelli as he was absolutely laid out by a charging defender.  That would prove to be the game winner with the final whistle blowing at 3-2.
