The first half proved to be an evenly matched affair where mid-field combination of Danny and Stig controlled the proceedings and nullified Troy before they could get their attack going. Harvard spent large parts of the first half peacefully digesting the eggs, ham and cheese he wolfed down minutes before taking the field while the defense snuffed just about every ball played to Troy’s attackers.
UK continued his recovery from injury by finding different ways to miss one-on-one opportunities versus the keeper. His first attempt on a breakaway went closer to the corner flag than the goal post (difficult to do as he was closer to the goal post) and on his second, almost identical opportunity a few minutes later, he mixed things up by trying to slot a low ball to the far corner but his shot was, eh, a bit weak and easily saved. We eventually got a goal from Cheez (he should get married more often) in the first half and continued to make things harder for us by missing good chances.
Troy came out for the second half hell-bent on equalizing and went with 3 strikers up top and a mental patient at center back. Neither move proved decisive and CPR held on to give Troy it’s first league defeat and move to within 5 points with a game in hand.
Final Score: CPR Grays 1 – Troy 0

The Whites Reserves advanced in State Cup this Sunday in a hard-fought game under the lights at Pier 40. CPR was stunned early as Gotham Argo found the back of the net on a surprising set piece in the opening minutes. Gotham Argo kept the pressure on early, but CPR began to find more and more of the game as the 1st half wore on. The Whites Reserves proved to have better fitness and skill through the remainder of the half as they created many enticing chances. CPR found their first breakthrough as a free kick from about 23 yards out was whipped in with tremendous spin by Dan C. The Gotham keeper was able to turn away the initial attempt, but was unable to control the rebound and Mike Nelson was poised to clean up the rebound. The CPR onslaught did not stop there as they continued to pressurize the Gotham back line and keeper. The Whites Reserves found the back of the net once again on a corner played in by Dan Riso was met by a shoulder/head from Chris Norelli that arched up and over the sprawling Gotham net-minder.
The second half was a little uglier. The Whites Reserves had the majority of possession, but continually gave the ball away rather cheaply. CPR did create a few chances, but they all slid wide or over the top. Gotham’s best chance came on a counter attack down their right wing that ultimately hit to post and was cleared by the CPR defense. After a hard fought battle the final whistle blew. CPR wins 2-1.
Starters: Jon Locitzer(GK), Andy Ma, Matt Geswell, Mike Nelson, Chris Brown, Toph Clarke, Dan Riso, Russell Archibald, Dan Coccaro, Chris Norelli, Lasse Kokko
