CPR White Reserves were unlucky to leave south Brooklyn with only a 1-1 draw against United FC. The reserves controlled the flow of play and created numerous quality chances, but only capitalized on a close range effort from Chris Norelli. The goal resulted from a long throw-in and flick on before the ball was willed across the goal line from the relentless Norelli. Despite increasing pressure from United FC, we continued to dominate the game but a wonderful strike from distance got United FC back into the game less than five minutes before half-time.
In the second half, our defense settled into a more cohesive rhythm to turn away the opposition’s repeated long balls and Jon parried a strong header mid-way through the half to prevent a pressing United from taking the lead. We continued to find success sending our strikers through the porous United FC defense and managed to slow down the frenetic first half pace and dominate possession in midfield. Unfortunately, three quality individual efforts from Norelli, Tony and Carlos, respectively, did not produce goals. The most compelling of which was a lovely sequence from Carlos which involved skinning no fewer than 3 United defenders only to fire the ball directly at the keeper from close range. But it was not in the end and we came away with our first point of the season and plenty to build on. A special thanks to Reds players Rob, Declan and Ian for strong contributions!
