Similar to the seasons’ first two matches, the Reserves got off to a fast start and enjoyed an early 1-0 lead from a Norelli strike. The industrious striker received the ball inside the penalty area with time and space and calmly slotted the ball into the back of the net. However, the momentum slowly fizzled as the Reserves struggled to find their defensive shape and maintain possession. We were fortunate to escape the half with the lead after the opposition’s speedy striker failed to convert a couple close chances.
The Reserves started the second half with renewed composure and managed to piece together stretches of possession. Led by strong play from Mike D., the midfielders exposed holes in the Eagles weak defense and created several chances but could not secure the elusive second goal. In the final fifteen minutes, the Eagles pressed hard with their direct style of football and we narrowly avoided the equalizer when a breakaway strike pinged off the side post. With only a minute remaining the Eagles managed to secure the equalizer when a CPR header clearance deflected off an Eagles player into the empty net. The disappointment was further exacerbated by a late game injury to Greg – speedy recovery to Moss. Onwards and upwards as we shake off the tie and look ahead to F.C. Polonia…
